2010 Tentative Assessment Roll Available

Dear Property Owners,

Please be advised that the 2010 Tentative Assessment Roll for the T/O Red Hook, V/O Red Hook and V/O Tivoli has been filed and is available for inspection at the Assessment Office located in the Town Hall at 7340 S. Broadway, Red Hook, N.Y. It is also available at the Dutchess County web site www.co.dutchess.ny.us where you can go to quick links then Mapping/GIS followed by parcel access--- parcel mapping---select a municipality and then search by parcel, owner or address.

I would encourage you to review your assessed value and also the physical data about your property that helps to create your assessment. This would include things such as house style and age; # of bathrooms; # of bedroom; # of rooms; heat and fuel type; basement type; building size which is very important and based on exterior measurements; garage type and size; number, size and type of decks, porches or patios; lot size; and other pertinent information. If you find an error, please bring it to our attention so we can establish a more accurate data base which will hopefully lead to a more equitable assessment roll.

For the last three years, as part of the ongoing town wide revaluation program, Change of Assessment Notices were mailed to property owners at substantial expense. Last year, when most assessments decreased, we received virtually no feedback. Consequently, it was decided to skip a mass mailing this year to help with a leaner budget. Most assessments have again decreased, some have stayed the same and about 3% have increased for a variety of reasons. Notices were sent to those properties that did increase.

If, after reviewing information about your property, you believe the assessment is wrong you may wish to read “What To Do If You Disagree With Your Assessment” published by NYS Office of Real Property Services and/or file a complaint on your real property assessment for 2009 with the T/O Red Hook Board of Assessment Review. This grievance process is available to property owners and must be received in the Town Hall on or before the fourth Tuesday of May which this year is May 25, 2010.

I hope this information is useful. If you have questions, please call 845-758-4604/4605. Thank you for your attention.
